ISMA

Musical talent needs early professional support! Promoting young talent is a particular concern for the MHL and one of its most pressing tasks. The ¡®pre-school¡¯ was established when the university was founded. Today, the ¡®Institut f¨¹r schulbegleitende Musikausbildung' (ISMA), which is affiliated with the MHL, enjoys an excellent reputation in Schleswig-Holstein and far beyond the state's borders. ISMA students regularly receive awards at the national competition ¡®Jugend musiziert¡¯ (Youth Makes Music) as well as at international youth competitions. Renowned artists have emerged from the ISMA. They perform worldwide, work as professors or hold solo positions in major orchestras. Representative examples include Christian Tetzlaff, David Garrett, Natalia Prischepenko, Daishin Kashimoto, Claudio Bohorquez, Matthias H?fs, Heime M¨¹ller and Sebastian Manz.

Op?por?tu?nities

The ISMA offers exceptionally talented young people still attending secondary school lessons in instrumental music, singing, composition and music theory. They are taught and artistically supervised by professors and lecturers from the MHL. Main subject lessons take place once a week during the semester. Courses in music theory and aural training are offered at weekends. Teaching is divided into several performance groups, which are assigned based on an entrance test. Upon request, an additional instrument or singing can be chosen as a minor subject. Special emphasis is placed on promoting instrumental ensemble playing.

The ISMA works closely with the ¡®Nordland-Kammermusikkursus,¡¯ which takes place every year at the beginning of January in Rendsburg. ISMA students have the opportunity to perform publicly at the institute's own concerts, class evenings and MHL music recitals. The range of further performance opportunities outside the MHL is being continuously expanded. Chamber music projects at home and abroad are integrated into the training.

The aim is to provide the best possible individual artistic support for young people.

Young Talents on Tour

In March 2023, the first international chamber music project involving ISMA took place in Luxembourg. Young students from the Conservatoire de Luxembourg, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the MHL came together to rehearse works by Mozart, Farrenc, Saint-Sa?ns and Mendelssohn Bartholdy under the direction of two lecturers. The pilot project ended with a final concert in the Grand Hall of the Conservatoire. Since then, young students from Luxembourg, Vienna and Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÄÄÀïͶע-¹ÙÍøÖ±²¥ have been meeting regularly in autumn for a chamber music project at one of the above-mentioned universities to make music together and perform in several concerts. The last Young Talents on Tour took place in Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÄÄÀïͶע-¹ÙÍøÖ±²¥ in September 2025.
